We are Colin and Melany Wyatt-Goodall, followers of Christ, husband and wife and the parents of three beautiful children, Hannah, Caleb and Chelsea. We have a passion for preaching the good news of Christ to the lost and have a heart for the unreached of Japan. We are members in good standing at Goodwood Baptist Church where Colin serves as an elder. Here we also serve in various local ministries and are activly involved in evangelism and outreach. Our desire is to someday be sent as missionaries from Cape Town to Okinawa in Japan, where we will continue in the work of the great comission by evangelising the lost and serving the local church.
Japan is a beautiful, first-world nation known for its technological innovation, excellent service delivery, and beloved cultural phenomena like Pokémon. At a surface level, many might assume there isn’t much need there. But when we look beneath the veneer of prosperity, a tremendous spiritual need becomes clear.
Of the 127 million people in Japan, only about 0.5% are Christian. Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area in the world and is considered the single largest concentration of unreached people on the planet. This lack of a Christian witness is reflected in society: many young people become extremely reclusive, many marriages are described as “loveless,” and many elderly suffer “lonely deaths,” alongside a host of other social challenges.
Japan stands as a sobering example of the limits of materialism, which cannot address humanity’s deepest problem—our separation from God. For this reason, Japan is in desperate need of the Gospel, and this is why we feel burdened to go.

Our mission begins with being sent directly from Goodwood Baptist Church to Okinawa. Despite its natural beauty, Okinawa faces significant challenges, being one of the poorest prefectures in Japan. The economic hardships of the region have left many in need of hope and support. Spiritually, the need is even more profound: only about 2% of the population identifies as Christian. Additionally, Okinawa comprises 48 inhabited islands, many of which have never been reached with the gospel.
Upon arrival we will look to join a local church that we are partnering with on that side. We believe that active participation in the local church is vital for effective outreach and evangelism. Long-term, our goal is to contribute to church planting and revitalization efforts and to assist in the raising up of young men to lead and pastor local churches.
